Senayet Negusse is a dedicated educator, advocate and member of the SeaTac Community. She has lived in South King County her entire life and works hard daily to ensure that every resident in South King County has access to information and resources.


Senayet was born to Ethiopian Refugees in South King County. She began working at age 13 at the Salvation Army church and tutoring center AND  and by the time she was 17, she was running youth groups and summer programs.  Senayet also worked to support her parent's small business and learned how to manage finances very young. She then went on to college at the University of Washington.

Senayet put herself through school by working three jobs and seeking out scholarships. She received a double degree in Speech & Hearing Sciences, Early Childhood and Family Studies and a Master’s in Education Policy & Leadership from the University of Washington and was able to graduate without any debt. Soon after, Senayet purchased her first home in SeaTac with her husband and high school sweetheart, Lukas.

Currently, she works for the Puget Sound ESD in early as a passionate Education Coach for the Head Start and ECEAP preschool programs across King and Pierce County. In this role, she provides professional development to hundreds of teachers. This ensures that teachers have the tools and resources needed to serve diverse communities and unique challenges children and families in our community face.


In her spare time, she serves as a Coordinator for a Senior meal program that serves over 120 senior citizens across King County. Senayet believes that all individuals should have access to health, education and nutrition services. Senayet also volunteers in the local community and serves on a number of boards, commissions and coalitions including the King County Immigrant & Refugee Commission and SNG Board (Crime Prevention & Community Building). In these roles, Senayet works actively in advocating, educating, organizing and collaborating with residents, businesses, government entities and other organizations to create safe and welcoming communities through equitable engagement.

Senayet is committed to listening to each resident and hopes to work in collaboration to address problems raised by the residents. Senayet hopes to empower and work alongside neighbors to create lasting and meaningful change in which each and every individual is able to benefit.
