Senayet Negusse is a dedicated educator, advocate, and member of the SeaTac community. She currently serves on the SeaTac City Council as the Deputy Mayor. Senayet has lived in South King County her entire life. She works hard daily in her capacity as a Program Manager at King County to ensure that every resident has equitable access to information and resources.

Senayet was born to Ethiopian Refugees in South King County. She began working at age 13 at the Salvation Army church and tutoring center and by the time she was 17, she was running youth groups and summer programs.  Senayet also worked to support her parent's small business and learned how to manage finances very young. She then went on to college at the University of Washington.

Senayet put herself through school by working three jobs and seeking out scholarships. She now holds a Master of Education in Education Policy and Leadership, a Bachelor of Science in Speech and Hearing Sciences, and a Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood and Family Studies from the University of Washington. Soon after graduation, Senayet purchased her first home in SeaTac with her husband and high school sweetheart, Lukas. She is now the proud mother of two twin boys.

Senayet previously served as a member of the SeaTac-Tukwila Rotary Board. She volunteered in the Sound Generations/Senior Services for Senior Congregate Meal Program providing meals to over 120 senior citizens across King County. Senayet also served as a board member of the Seattle Neighborhood Group, a member of the King County Immigrant and Refugee Commission, and a volunteer at The Salvation Army. In these roles, she advocated, educated, and collaborated with residents, businesses, government entities, and other organizations to create safe and welcoming communities through equitable engagement.

Senayet is committed to listening to each resident and hopes to work in collaboration to address problems raised by the residents. Senayet hopes to continue her work to empower neighbors to create lasting and meaningful change in which each and every individual is able to benefit.
